Summer Sail Camp
Sail Camp 2025
Sail Camp is a learn to sail program for kids aged 8-16 and is held at Lake Yosemite Sailing Association’s (LYSA) clubhouse at Lake Yosemite. Multiple sessions are offered each season (see below) and the different groups run concurrently
Campers will learn to sail on stable Capri 13 and FJ sailboats with experienced junior counselors. Campers learn basic safety, parts of the boat, rigging, man overboard recovery, capsize recovery, docking, sail trim, keeping a steady course, and steering. Campers do not need prior sailing experience, but must know how to swim. The camp is taught by experienced youth sailing instructors.
Currently there are no new junior counselor positions available. However, youth over the age of thirteen with leadership skills and advanced sailing experience are encouraged to ask about our volunteer junior counselor positions. JCs act as skippers, are responsible for hands-on instruction, and are expected to help the head counselor and adult instructors. JCs also help with boat maintenance and serve dinner at LYSA’s annual open house fundraiser. After turning nineteen, JCs have the opportunity to apply for paid counselor positions.
