Spring is in the air and sailing season can’t be far off. Our cruise/social co-captains, the dynamic duo Norm Martin and Jerry Johnson are planning a great LYSA opening day/weekend at the lake on Saturday April 30th. I will let them tell you all of the details of this great LYSA event. But let me say that Yacht Club opening days are a long standing tradition that go back over one hundred years! For many clubs this is a very formal event with the ladies in long dresses and the gentlemen in white jackets. Thankfully we are more of a shorts, tee shirts and flip flop kind of club!
One of the best things about our opening day LYSA style is, of course, catching up with club members that we may not have seen since the fall. Another nice tradition of our opening day is many of our fellow members launch their boats that day and everyone helps with mast raising and other launching chores.
Please stay tuned for more details about a really special meal and other details.
I am really looking forward to our April general membership meeting on Tuesday the 12th. I hope that you all can clear your schedules and join us. This will be our first meeting of the year at our LYSA clubhouse.
We will be doing a potluck starting at 6 PM. Please bring a dish to share and your own beverage. The club will furnish all of the paper products.
I will also have new 2022 membership cards to hand out to all paid up members. One of the many perks of being a LYSA member is that our club is affiliated with the Pacific Inter Yacht Club Association, PIYCA. As such, we, as LYSA members, can have a meal or a drink at most of the great yacht clubs in California. Your membership card at many of these clubs is required to get in.
Also at 6, I will be doing a brief overview of the clubhouse rules and check out keys to new club members.
The general membership meeting is set for 7 PM followed by the board meeting.
I hope to see a HUGE turnout on the 12th and at opening day!
